We all know that cleansing our face is essential for clear and glowing skin. We go outside, our face gets dirty. We stay inside, it gets dirty. We sleep, it gets dirty. Ok, so we wake up, splash it with water and ready to go, right? Sorry! When you use water to wash your face, you are not really washing your face. The dirt stays on your skin because it sticks to the natural oils on your skin. Water doesn’t have the strength to pick up the dirt and oil and wash it away. Regular soap, while strong enough to lift the dirt, is generally not a good idea because it’s more alkaline than your skin is – the ph level is too high. It is important for people with acne to use cleansers that are gentle on their skin. Remember, acne is caused by inflammation and inflammation is often caused by harsh cleansing.
You want your cleanser, whatever that may be, to do the following:
- Be strong enough to remove the dirt away but gentle enough to not harm the skin
- Remove any dead skin cells that give your face a dull, lifeless look
- Remove makeup and oil (in addition to the dirt) without pulling on your skin
That’s really about it – any more is overkill. Adding too many functions to one product requires extra unnecessary ingredients that can be harmful to you and the environment. Because cleanser is a rinse off product, any extra ingredients that are added will only be washed down the drain. All the cleansers we make are readily biodegradable, which means they will break down on their own in our environment. Nothing special needs to happen to ensure they will biodegrade, it happens naturally. Many cleansers are not biodegradable and will bioaccumulate (meaning, they build up in our environment). Moreover, they can bind heavy metals together in our waterways, which can lead to lead poisoning of the creatures that live there.
We use some tiberriffic naturally derived ingredients in our cleansers such as Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Green Tea, Wasabi Extract, Dl Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Sucrose Cocoate, Pomegranates, and Olives. Your cleanser will be more effective if used with other products, namely toners and moisturizers, that complement it. Make sure to make your choices based on your skin type, not on what sounds just too good to pass up. Your skin will thank you!
